8-Day Tour: Highlands of Iceland in 4×4 super jeeps/trucks
350.000,-DAY 1 – Reykjavík – Þórsmörk – Kirkjubæjarklaustur
Our highland tour starts in the amazing nature of Þórsmörk nature reserve with its unique composition of glaciers, rocks and greenery. We continue along the south shore and stop to admire the waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss before going onwards to Reynisfjara beach, where unbelievable basaltic columns reach the sky, majestically towering over a black sand beach of tiny little lava pebbles. The tour goes on to cross Eldhraun, a large mass of lava, before reaching the small village of Kirkjubæjarklaustur.

DAY 2 – Laki Volcanic Craters
A full day’s tour to Laki, a volcanic crater row, famous for erupting in 1783. The crater row is 25 km long and shows spectacular formations of red and black scoria and lava. During the eruption in the 18th century, a massive lava flow formed the magnificent Eldhraun lava field, which is the third largest on earth since the ice age. We stay overnight close to Kirkjubæjarklaustur.
DAY 3 – Skaftafell – Jökulsárlón – Kirkjubæjarklaustur
From Kirkjubæjarklaustur we head to Skaftafell national park, which is dominated by Vatnajökull, Europe´s largest ice cap with the highest peak of the island, Hvannadalshnjúkur (2111m). Then we continue on to Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon. You will see scores of amazing blocks of ice that have broken off Europe’s biggest glacier, Vatnajökull. These blocks of ice are drifting slowly towards the ocean which is not far away. We´ll take a boat tour on the glacier lagoon (boat tour included in price). Afterwards we head back and spend the night close by Kirkjubæjarklaustur.
DAY 4 – Eldgjá – Landmannalaugar
Today we will drive along Fjallabaksleið (Behind the Mountains) to Eldgjá (Fire Fissure) and Landmannalaugar, a magnificent area surrounded by colorful rhyolite mountains. There you’ll have the opportunity to take a 1-2-hour hike to explore the landscape. At Landmannalaugar you can bathe outside in a naturally warm creek. Overnight stay near Landmannalaugar.
DAY 5 – Sprengisandur – Lake Mývatn
Across the wilderness of Sprengisandur, a wild desolate land of breathtaking emptiness, this day will certainly leave you with some unforgettable memories and experiences. In the afternoon we will see the two waterfalls of Aldeyjarfoss and Goðafoss.

DAY 6 – Lake Mývatn
After yesterday’s long journy across Sprengisandur, we spend a relaxing day at Lake Mývatn, a wonderland of bird life and strange volcanic rock formations. We will top the day off with a relaxing visit to Mývatn Nature Baths (included in price). Overnight stay near Lake Mývatn.
DAY 7 – Lake Mývatn – Húsavík- Akureyri
In Húsavík you have the option to go on a whale watching tour (not included in the price) as we take a round tour to explore Asbyrgi national park and Dettifoss waterfall, ending our journey at Akureyri.
Overnight stay close by or in Akureyri.
DAY 8 – Akureyri -Hveravellir – Gullfoss – Geysir - Þingvellir – Reykjavík
As we leave Akureyri, the capital of the north, we will cross the highlands for the last time on this journey. At the route of Kjölur we again have the opportunity to experience outside baths in a natural warm pool, mixed with hot and cold springs. Afterwards we´ll explore Gullfoss, the “Golden Waterfall’, and the Geysir hot spring area. There you’ll see the famous Geysir and Strokkur among numerous other hot springs and boiling mud pools. We will drive from Geysir to Þingvellir national park and take a look at the ancient site of the world´ s first parliament, established in the year 930, arriving in Reykjavík in the late afternoon.

Things to take along on a trip like this would be:
Good hiking shoes, sleeping bag, camera, bathing suit, towels, and warm clothes. Please remember that Icelandic weather can change suddenly and without prior warning.
